Cambridge Arts Council Readies for Silo Project Completion with Slate of Weekend Events

August 4, 2016 Cambridge Arts Council

The Cambridge Arts Council is readying for the completion of painted murals on two concrete silos in Jeffersonville. The art implementation, deemed “The Silo Project” by the organization, is made possible by a grant entitled “Animated Infrastructure” awarded by the Vermont Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. Cambridge Arts Council, currently celebrating their 20th anniversary, will also host their 8th Annual Festival of the Arts, and the end of their online art auction. All three activities will culminate during the weekend of August 12 – 14, 2016.

On Friday, August 12, 2016, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, a celebration of the Silo Project’s completion will occur at the site of the silos, off of Depot Street in Jeffersonville. Attendees will be able to meet silo artist, Sarah C. Rutherford, see the completed art work, hear from speakers involved with the project, as well as enjoy live music. Attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to share, community pot luck-style, as well as a blanket and chair. The event is rain or shine, free, and open to the public.

The following day, Saturday, August 13, 2016, on Main Street in Jeffersonville, the 8th Annual Festival of the Arts will be held from 10:00am to 4:00pm. This open-air, fine arts festival, includes over 50 artist vendors, live music by Green Mountain Swing Band and Red Hot Juba, children’s art activities, and food and drink vendors. The event is rain or shine, free, and open to the public.

Ending the celebratory weekend, on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at 12:00pm, the organization’s online art auction will close. The auction, which includes 49 donated items from local artists and art organizations, has been running since July 1, 2016. The auction items will be available for viewing at Visions of Vermont Fine Art Galleries’ Sugarhouse Gallery during the Festival of the Arts. All proceeds from the auction will go towards the organization’s mission of celebrating art and community. To make a bid, go to biddingowl.com/cambridgeartscouncil.
